Support & Get Involved

Alumni are a valuable resource to the university when they choose to remain connected and involved. You can get involved in many ways.

Volunteer

Alumni volunteers are often needed to participate in events and activities. Assistance with student recruitment, career mentoring and serving in an alumni chapter are just some of the ways to become involved.

  • Student recruitment: Alumni are needed to help the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at various college fairs throughout Virginia and in other states. VCU alumni make excellent representatives at these events because you can speak from personal experience. You graduated and are a success story. Students and parents want to hear from you. Learn more.
  • Alumni groups: Chapters and affiliated organizations are subgroups of the association organized around special interests. Get involved! Learn more.
  • Special events: Special events will vary from school to school but opportunities exist in assisting with dinners, galas, awards recognition programs, golf tournaments, regional events and seminars. There is no specific time commitment for special events volunteers as each event is different. You could:
    • Serve on a planning committee for an event
    • Work at events
    • Assist with mailings
    • Make phone calls
    • Help with other office-related activities
  •   The alumni associations have made service to the community and to VCU a high priority. You can assist by participating in various projects that serve the community, such as:
    • Sock it to Homelessness: The associations collected new socks for the homeless;
    • Affordable Housing Week: Alumni worked at Richmond Community High School on the beautification of their school;
    • Campus food drives: Alumni donated food through the Central Virginia Food Bank and helped by staffing the food drop-off locations;
    • Coats for Kids: The associations collected new and gently used coats to donate to children; and
    • Numerous other opportunities throughout the year.
  • Something else? Tell us how you would like to be involved.

Financial support

Although VCU is a state-supported institution, the percentage of funding from the state continues to decline. The current economic situation has made private donations even more important to preserving and enhancing the ability to deliver an outstanding educational experience.

Alumni associations: The VCU Alumni Association and the MCV Alumni Association are nonprofit organizations and rely heavily on funds generated by membership, donations, sponsorships and affinity partnershipsAlumni association dues are not contributions to the university and are not tax-deductible. Membership dues support activities to foster alumni engagement and fund programs for alumni, students and faculty. You can make a tax-deductible gift to the alumni associations, your school or your department now.

Scholarships: The VCU Alumni Association and the MCV Alumni Association have established several scholarship funds to benefit current students. Support these scholarships with a tax-deductible gift

    University support: You also can make a gift to support any school or unit at the university. Tax-deductible donations provide funds for technology, scholarships, faculty and much more.
