Volunteer
As a result of an alumni survey taken in 2007 and a symposium on alumni relations in 2008, the VCU Alumni Association is mobilizing alumni in support of service initiatives throughout the country.
In partnership with HandsOn Greater Richmond and the VCU Division of Community Engagement, the association has identified service to community as a major initiative. With more than 51,000 alumni in the Richmond-metro area and more than 140,000 VCU alumni throughout the world, we can make an incredible difference in the lives of others! VCU Caring to Act promotes events that provide opportunities for faculty, staff, alumni, students and friends to participate in structured volunteer activities that address critical community needs. In addition, educational opportunities will be linked to the events to broaden our understanding of the related issues and to explore our roles as citizens in the Richmond region.
"Project Homeless Connect"
On November 19th from 8:30 am - 5 pm. volunteers are needed to work one on one with people who are homeless and assist them in navigating through the resources available. To sign up to participate in this event, go to the HandsOn Greater Richmond web site and click on VCU Days of Caring. If you are not already a registered member of this site, you will need to register. When you sign up, please be sure to list VCU in the employment section.
"Sock it to Homelessness"
The VCUAA is encouraging donations of socks for the homeless. Dunk your sock donations in the barrels located in the lobby of the Siegel Center during the men's home basketball games. Of all items donated to shelters, new socks are among the items least given and needed the most. There is a renewable need that is constant. For more information on this project, click here.
